The primary function of a CHECK VALVE is to prevent the backflow of media within a pipeline. In production line piping systems, maintaining a specific flow direction is essential; check valves ensure that fluid flows only in the designated direction, preventing reverse flow from damaging the process or causing contamination.

Furthermore, check valves are used to prevent fluid from back-streaming into other equipment or pipes, thereby protecting adjacent components from unnecessary damage. This is particularly critical for fragile equipment or devices sensitive to specific fluids.

In addition, check valves help maintain pressure balance within the piping system during pressure fluctuations. They prevent excessively high or low pressure from affecting the system, ensuring that fluids are transported at the appropriate process pressure.

A check valve consists of a two-part valve body, a diaphragm (or baffle), a spring, and a shaft plug with an O-ring at the tip. These components are assembled using Tri-Clamps and gaskets, with the O-ring on the shaft plug providing the seal.

When fluid passes through the valve body in the forward direction, the pressure forces the valve open. Conversely, any fluid attempting to flow in the reverse direction causes the valve to close. The closing of the valve is achieved through a combination of the structure's weight, back pressure, and spring force.
